It seemed chaotic of what the heavy rain have cause in the streets last saturday, somehow it made me live a clip in a movie, but it was so real to be unbelieved. At that time, it took me a while to swallow the fact that such madness may take place in a country like mine. Unlike all the other haters, I never took these silly excuses in blaming higher authorities for such an accident. I love my country, and i'll still love it for the better and for the worse, from the cradle to the grave, because this misunderstanding is considered nothing compared to the gifts of being just on the "land" of this country. One should understant that mistakes were exposed so clearly that a blind man could gain his vision back again. Whining about it on the radio stations and newspapers will be just a loss of words.
I was on my way back to the dorms from my aikido class, I remember when I left the dojo and saw the rain, my body felt alive again, and the air was so clean in such a way that it made me miss the dusty weather. Yes, I liked the weather, but not until I saw my car. Unfortunately, I parked my car at an end of an incline, and it was barely floating so I took my slippers off on one hand, and my bag on the other to go through. I did not give so much time to my actions because I was sure that what's coming next is even worse.
One of the worst choices that I made that day, was taking the Emirates road on my way to uni, I realized that the moment I went down the bridge and observed the countless number of redlights before my eyes.
Ofcourse, I went with the current, but it was not flowing, and it is not that the traffic was in motion, time was not moving as well. It was exactly the same feeling of getting tied on a rail road waiting for suicide because you cannot do anything better. I was left there for an hour or so, until I observed a very awkward movement on the road! Cars were taking the opposite direction of the road which made the situation even more chaotic, more like "car wars", the one who takes over the current wins.
After many encounters, justice intervened for order on the road, so they broke down the steel poles between the two highways and directed the cars to take the U turn all the way back to Dubai. I thought of going through the industrial area, which infact was worse than the first choice, but how would a local from AbuDhabi know!? I took over, and the road had less traffic which made me calm for a while, but such calm does not last for long in this madness. The road was flooded by rain which made me have no other choice but to continue sailing. I went through easily, but I was worried about the car because its not used to sailing much, but I will make sure it flies next time it rains. The movement stopped at the bridge that connects the city to the industrial area, everyone hopped off their cars because it was pointless to move on, or to pull back. An abandoned gas stations was on the side of the road, so I thought of parking my car and see what is blocking the road. Unfortunately, the flood ahead was high enough to swallow a human being, I looked back at my cards and found only one to play, which is going back to uni on foot, because swimming in dirty water would have enough germs to turn me into a vermin.
I took my bag and books and took the area of industrial warehouses, it was dark and gloomy that I could barely believe that ghosts could pass through that area. To be honest, I was scarred to death because no other soul whether its an animal or human was in that area. Loud barks were heard but there were no dogs around which made me piss on myself because I'm not good at dealing with homeless dogs. I encountered many turns and my basic rule that I follow when I get lost if just keep moving forward, until I met the highway. I tried hitch hiking for a while, but the road was empty because everyone got stuck in the rain. I crossed the highway over the platform until a small bus dropped from the sky. I stopped him and later I knew that he was heading to the airport road, so I hopped on. I felt so lucky because busses can easily run through flood, so I added another lucky card to my deck.
Special thanks to Saleh Aljifry who drove me back to the dorms when the uni gates were closed~
